Foolproof Poached Egg
Eggs are one of the most versatile and common ingredients in the pantry, so why not spice up your breakfast routine by learning to poach an egg? This seemingly-intimidating process is actually incredibly simple, and will give you the poached egg of your dreams in under 15 minutes!
What are Poached Eggs?
A poached egg is defined as an egg, outside its shell, boiled until the white is completely cooked while the yolk remains runny. By this definition, there’s no real way to say that the concept originated anywhere in particular.
Humans have always poached eggs, even when completely removed from each other. We often think of Eggs Benedict and the French when thinking of poached eggs, but cultures all over the world celebrate this method, including Columbian changua, North African shakshouka, Portuguese ovos escalfados, and Korean suran.

- total time: 7.5 minutes
Servings: 1
Ingredients:
- 1 Egg
- 1/4 Cup White Vinegar
- Water
- A Pinch of Salt
Serve With:
- Toast
- Avocado
- Hot Sauce
- Salad
Instructions:
Fill a small pot or saucepan with water, add your salt and vinegar, then bring to a boil. The vinegar helps the egg to maintain its shape & structure during the poaching. Crack your egg in a small ramekin or bowl and set aside.
Once water is up to a rolling boil, take a spoon and stir until a strong whirlpool forms.
As soon as the whirlpool forms, gently add in your egg for 2.5 minutes.
Carefully remove your egg from the boiling water with a slotted spoon. Serve hot immediately with a crack of pepper, garnished with chives, or on toast!
